Dooly Makchang, Miryang: A Local Favorite for Grilled Pork Intestines (Even for Skeptics)
📍 Gyeongnam / Miryang · Downtown Miryang
Confession: I usually cannot eat makchang (grilled pork intestines). The smell and texture always put me off, so I would just eat other meat. But locals in Miryang kept talking about one place, so I followed them to Dooly Makchang — and even I enjoyed it. The atmosphere is great and the drinks go down easily.

A real neighborhood grill
It is a small place with a round grill on every table. Drinks are self-service — just grab what you want from the fridge. A generous spread of lettuce, kimchi and seasoned sides is set out as soon as you sit down.

The makchang comes whole
The kitchen pre-grills the makchang in a machine first, then brings it out whole — not chopped into little bits. You can tell right away this is not cheap makchang. Finish it on the grill until golden, then cut it with scissors.

Look at the cross-section: the makchang is rolled up inside. Crispy outside, chewy inside, and nuttier the more you chew. There was almost no gamey smell. It felt like a special kind of makchang you only find around Daegu and Miryang.

The pork belly is excellent too
We also had half a portion of pork belly. Thick slices come with big king oyster mushrooms. Grilled golden and cut into chunks, it stays incredibly juicy. Alternating between makchang and pork belly, we never got bored.

Free sujebi — the secret weapon
A bowl of sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) comes free. The clear broth with thin dough flakes is so good, and a spoonful between bites of meat refreshes your mouth. Lots of tables order extra (₩5,000).

Zoapik’s verdict
– Makchang ₩29,500 — served whole, chewy, almost no smell – Good enough even for people who “don’t eat makchang” – Pork belly ₩35,000 — thick and juicy – The free sujebi is amazing; order seconds – Self-service drinks make it relaxed and easy – Opens at 17:00, closed Sundays – Heads-up: it is a casual local spot — come for drinks with friends, not a fancy dinner
If you are ever in Miryang, this is where locals go. I could not eat makchang before — now I recommend it without hesitation.
