Udon Kinu, Bangbae: Handmade Bukkake Udon & the Best Egg Rice in Seoul
📍 Seoul / Seocho · Naebang Stn. (Line 7) Exit 7
When the weather turns cool in Seoul, I start craving a bowl of chewy udon. Udon Kinu is a small noodle shop in Bangbae-dong that makes its noodles by hand every day, and it has become my go-to lunch spot in southern Seoul.

How to find it
Leave Naebang Station from Exit 7 and walk about 150 m toward Isu Intersection. Turn into the small alley between Starbucks Naebang and Dongguk Oriental Medicine Hospital, and the shop is right in front of you. Look for the wooden-slat facade with big windows — it looks like a little udon shop in a Japanese backstreet.

A calm, tidy space (good for solo diners too)
Inside, dark green walls and wooden tables make it feel quiet and relaxed. There is a long bar along the window, so eating alone is easy, and plenty of tables for couples and groups. The kitchen is fully open, so you can watch everything being made.

“Kinu” means silk
The menu explains the name: kinu (絹) is Japanese for silk. The idea is noodles that feel silky-smooth but keep the firm, springy bite of Sanuki-style udon. After one bowl, I understood exactly what they meant.

Noodles made right in the shop
Udon Kinu kneads and cuts its own noodles. You can see trays of resting dough stacked up and the noodle machine at work, and every order is boiled fresh. In-house noodles are not that common in this neighborhood, which is a big part of why I keep coming back.

What we ordered: two tonkatsu sets
We got two tonkatsu sets — one with cold bukkake, one with hot kake. Everything arrives on one big tray: tonkatsu, udon, egg rice, sauces, pickled radish and pickled peppers.

Bukkake udon — seriously chewy
Bukkake is cold udon. It comes neatly coiled and topped with tempura flakes, grated radish, scallions and sesame. Pour over the house-made tsuyu, mix, and dig in. Because the noodles are cold, they are extra bouncy, and the radish keeps the finish clean. If you only try one thing here, make it this.

The hot kake udon is gentle and clean — a good pick on a chilly day.
Tonkatsu — crispy outside, juicy inside
Coarse panko gives the cutlet a loud crunch, and the inside stays tender. It is thick but never dry, and it goes perfectly with the noodles.

Tsuyu egg rice — the hidden star
Honestly, this is what I remember most. A runny fried egg sits on rice with a drizzle of tsuyu soy sauce. Break the yolk, mix, and it disappears in minutes. The menu says they use eggs from their own egg farm.

Take the sauce home
A poster on the wall says you can buy the same secret soy sauce they use for the bukkake and egg rice. I loved the egg rice so much that I brought a bottle home — and it tastes exactly the same at home. If you cook where you are staying, it makes a great edible souvenir.

Make it a date: coffee next door
After lunch, we walked a few steps to Pâtisserie Odelis (파티세리 오델리스), a café right next to Kinu. The staff were friendly and the sofas comfortable — perfect for a long chat. Udon plus coffee makes an easy half-day plan in Bangbae.

Zoapik’s verdict
– In-house handmade udon, boiled to order – Cold bukkake noodles are wonderfully chewy – Tonkatsu is thick, crispy and juicy – The tsuyu egg rice is a must – You can buy the house soy sauce to take home – 3 minutes from Naebang Station Exit 7 · reservations on Catch Table – Tip: set menus are cheaper at weekday lunch – Heads-up: break time is 15:00–17:30, so plan around it
If you are looking for real handmade udon in Seoul, Udon Kinu is worth the trip. Next time I am trying the chikuwa bukkake.
