IOR Dangsan: A Korean Head Spa with Scalp Scans, Scaling and a Neck & Shoulder Release

πŸ“ Seoul / Dangsan Β· Dangsan Stn. (Lines 2 & 9)

This visit was sponsored by IOR Dangsan. As always, all opinions are my own.

My scalp tends to run warm, and I hate that damp, heavy feeling that comes back soon after washing my hair. So I finally tried a proper Korean head spa at IOR in Dangsan. The short version: it is not just a scalp treatment β€” they work on your neck and shoulders too, and that made it so much better.

Finding it

IOR is on the 3rd floor of METRO 29, a glass building on the main road near Dangsan Station. Look for the izakaya on the ground floor β€” that is your landmark. Follow the entrance sign, take the elevator to the 3rd floor and ring the bell at Room 302. The door plate says it is a scalp care specialist.

The owner told me lots of office workers pop in on their lunch break, which tells you how convenient the location is.

Visiting from abroad? Booking is through Naver, which is in Korean. I suggest asking your hotel to help, or having a Korean friend book for you, and checking ahead whether they can explain things in English.

A cozy, spotless space

The first thing I noticed was the mood: arched doorways, soft curtains and warm lighting. It is also really tidy, which made me trust the place right away. There is a separate powder room, so you can fix your hair before heading back out.

Each bed is separated by a curtain, and the room gets lots of natural light, so it never feels stuffy. Products and devices are neatly organized by type.

Step 1: A close-up look at your scalp

You do not just lie down and start. First, they scan your scalp with a magnifying camera and show you the screen. Mine had quite a lot of oil and dead skin built up around the pores. Seeing it that big was a little shocking β€” it is a part of you that you never actually look at! But knowing my starting point made the whole treatment easier to follow.

Step 2: Steam and gentle scaling

Steam softens and opens up the pores first. Then the built-up flakes are lifted away, scaling-style. It is not hard scrubbing β€” they work gently along the scalp. I felt no stinging or pulling at all, so I think it would be fine even for sensitive scalps. They also kept checking the water temperature with me, which I appreciated.

Step 3: Ampoule, pushed in with a device

On the clean scalp they apply a scalp ampoule. They told me they use a stem-cell ingredient ampoule and they were generous with it. A special device then helps it absorb β€” it feels like the product is being pressed in, not just painted on.

Step 4: Energy therapy for the neck and shoulders

This was the highlight for me. The energy therapy gives a light tingle, and I could really feel the muscles under my scalp relaxing. Then they work from the back of the neck down to the shoulder line. As the knots let go, even my head felt cooler. They said many people fall asleep at this stage β€” I dozed off a few times too. If you stare at a screen all day (or carried a heavy bag around Seoul all week), this part alone is worth it.

Step 5: Warm finish

To finish, a warming device calms the scalp and helps everything soak in. I walked out with my head feeling fresh and light.

Before and after

At the end, they scan the same spot again so you can compare. The flakes and oil were cleared away and the pores looked much clearer β€” a visible difference after just one session. Regular visits would be better, of course. Back home, my scalp felt less damp for several days, and the heat I care about most had really calmed down.

The owner also sells home-care products like shampoo at close to cost, and gives you tips on how to look after your scalp afterward.

Zoapik’s verdict

– You see your scalp up close, before and after – Neck and shoulders are included β€” great for tired travelers – Scaling is gentle, with no stinging – Generous stem-cell ingredient ampoule – Clean, cozy space with warm lighting and a powder room – Walkable from Dangsan Station β€” easy to fit into a day – Heads-up: booking is on Naver in Korean, so get help booking and confirm language support first

If your scalp gets heavy and warm like mine, a head spa at IOR is a lovely way to reset. I will be going back.
