Strawberry32, Yeonnam: The Fresh Mango Cake My Whole Family Went Back For

📍 Seoul / Yeonnam (Hongdae) · Yeonnam-dong · look for the red door

Picking a celebration cake is always hard. Pretty cakes can taste boring, and tasty ones do not always look good in photos. This time I got both. Strawberry32 in Yeonnam-dong is one of the cake shops everyone mentions, and I took home their mango cake for a family dinner.

Book first, then pick up

This is the most important tip: reserve ahead. Buying a cake on the day is hard, and I heard many people show up without a booking and leave empty-handed. The shop was even picked for the Naver Booking Awards 2025.

I booked my mango cake on Naver Booking the day before. You choose your pickup time when you book, which actually made planning my day easier. Popular sizes sell out fast, so if you have a fixed birthday or anniversary date, book a few days early to be safe.

Naver Booking is in Korean, so if that feels tricky, ask a Korean friend or your hotel to help.

Find the red door

The shop is inside a small Yeonnam-dong alley, so you might wander a little the first time. Just look for the bright red door with gold handles — you cannot miss it, and it is very photogenic.

I arrived a bit before the 11:30 opening, and the door was still closed. Through the glass I could see staff already filling the cases. At 11:30 on the dot, the shutter went up, and I was the very first pickup of the day.

Watching the showcase fill up

Right after opening, the cases are still empty. Then rows of mango cakes tied with yellow ribbons start coming in, one after another. A whole shelf of yellow — honestly, it made me so happy just to look at it.

Next to them were chocolate cakes with burgundy ribbons, topped with glossy round pieces. There was even a cherry Dubai cake.

The wall is covered in photos of real cakes they have made, including lots of strawberry versions. The fruit seems to change with the seasons, so it is fun to plan your next order while you wait.

They also sell candles and little party extras, starting from around ₩1,000. Perfect if you forgot to bring candles like I usually do.

Two big posters inside show the shop’s two stars: mango and strawberry.

My mango cake: size 1, ₩48,000

I got the size 1 (1-ho) mango cake for ₩48,000. Mango slices cover the top neatly, one by one, and big chunks of mango peek out from the sides. It was enough for four people to share generously, so size 1 is fine for a family meal.

They packed it carefully and added a small cup of sauce. The box went into a plastic bag with handles, so it was easy to carry. It was summer and I was worried about the heat, but they added an ice pack, and the cream did not move at all on the way.

If you are not eating it right away, set your pickup time close to your meal.

Cutting it with my family

When we opened the box at dinner, the cake still looked perfect. The cut side was beautiful: layers of cream and mango stacked all the way down.

The sponge is really soft — not dry at all. The mango was fresh and fragrant, with none of the mushy texture you get from frozen mango. The cream is light, not greasy. My parents usually stop after one slice of cake, but that night everyone went back for more.

The little sauce cup is a fruit-cocktail syrup, and it is so good. Pour a bit over your slice and the fruit flavor gets even stronger — it tastes completely different from the slice without it.

It is not too sweet, so it went really well with coffee.

Compared with Sungsimdang’s mango cake

If you know the famous mango cake from Sungsimdang in Daejeon: that one has very little sponge and feels like piles of cream and mango, so you basically scoop it with a spoon. If you want a more polished cake, I would pick Strawberry32.

Zoapik’s verdict

– Soft sponge and light cream — you will not get tired of it – Fresh, fragrant mango is the real star – The fruit-cocktail syrup on the side is a delicious bonus – Solid packing plus an ice pack, so it travels well – Pretty enough for birthday and anniversary photos – I would buy it again — strawberry next time – Heads-up: book a day or more ahead on Naver Booking; same-day buying is hard, and it is takeout only
