Where to Eat in Seoul by Neighborhood: My Local Picks from Hongdae to Namdaemun
When I travel, I pick a neighborhood first and then ask, “Okay, where do I eat?” So here is my Seoul food guide organized that way. Find the area you are staying in or exploring, and you will have a tried-and-loved meal nearby.
Hongdae & Yeonnam
The young, busy heart of western Seoul, and street-food heaven.
- Hongdae Jopok Tteokbokki — the legendary red-sign tteokbokki shop in front of Sangsang Madang is back after two years. Over 20 chewy rice cakes for ₩6,000, and you order on a kiosk in English. Last order is 21:40.
- Geudongne Tteokbokki — a retro snack bar near Gyeongui Line Forest Park that pours ₩2,500 draft beer. Get the salmon gimbap (₩8,500) and the crispy fried squid. Break time is 16:00–17:00.

Sweet finish: pre-order a mango cake from Strawberry32 (takeout only, book ahead on Naver Booking).
Mangwon
A relaxed neighborhood next to Hongdae, full of little alleys.
- Giwadon — the crispiest tonkatsu I have ever had, in a calm, hanok-inspired room with bar seating for solo diners. Order the tenderloin (₩15,000, or ₩17,000 for the large 200 g), and eat it first while it’s hot. Closed Sundays, break 15:00–17:00.
Dangsan
Easy to reach on Lines 2 and 9, and it has some of my most-visited spots.
- Yumibun Gimbap — a 23-year-old snack shop with over ten million rolls sold. The glossy, triple-fried dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken, ₩13,000) is the star, and seaweed soup refills are free.
- Haejuban — clean, mild gamjatang (pork-bone stew) under a tower of cabbage greens, 3 minutes from Dangsan Station Exit 8. A small pot (₩35,000) was perfect for two, and ramyeon noodles are unlimited. Closed Mondays.
- Roji Oden — a cozy oden bar right at Dangsan Station. Busan mixed oden is ₩23,000, Terra draft beer is ₩3,900, and the window counter seats are lovely. Open until 02:00.

Bonus: after a big meal, IOR head spa is also walkable from Dangsan Station.
Yeongdeungpo
Great for snacking while you shop at Times Square.
- Shiopanya — salt bread pop-up next to CGV on the 4th floor (₩3,500–4,500, cashless, until November 30, 2026).
- Osulloc at Shinsegae — Jeju matcha soft serve for ₩5,800, takeout only.
- Daytique Coffee — a chandelier café with a ₩2,800 salt bread I can’t stop thinking about.
Yeouido
Office towers by day, Han River picnics and drinks by night.
- Chungmu Pocha — a retro pocha (a casual Korean pub) that flame-grills LA galbi and serves it on a sizzling plate. Add the spicy skewer fish cake soup and sit outside for real yajang vibes (eating outdoors under the city lights). Parking in the building garage is free.
- Teddy Beurre House — award-winning croissants on B1 of The Hyundai Seoul. Take them to Yeouido Hangang Park.

Bangbae & Seocho
Quiet, residential southern Seoul.
- Udon Kinu — handmade udon 3 minutes from Naebang Station Exit 7. The cold bukkake udon is wonderfully chewy, and the tsuyu egg rice is the hidden star. Sets are ₩15,000–17,000 (cheaper at weekday lunch), and you can book on Catch Table. Break 15:00–17:30.

Make a day of it: Dewvero The Skin and Spa Fine are in the same area.
City Hall, Namdaemun & Gwanghwamun
Palaces, markets and old Seoul.
- Gamegol Son Wang Mandu — a 40-year-old dumpling shop in Namdaemun Market, about 40 m from Hoehyeon Station Exit 5. Four giant kimchi dumplings are just ₩5,500. Join the dine-in line, not the takeout one. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
- Then grab a hot hotteok (sweet filled pancake) from a stall in the market. That’s what we did!
- Cafe Darak — for coffee with a view over Deoksugung Palace (Americano ₩3,500).
- Near Gwanghwamun, Viewtae Esthetic by Cheonggyecheon Stream is a lovely way to end the day.

Worth leaving Seoul for
- Chuncheon: Choga Mungteong Jjigae kimchi stew (₩12,000 per person, minimum 2). Expect long waits on weekends.
- Miryang: Dooly Makchang, whole grilled pork intestines with free sujebi soup. Closed Sundays.
- Ulsan: Ilsan Fish Market, where you pick your fish and eat sashimi by the sea at sunset.
- Seosan: Samgilpo sea platform fishing, so you can catch your own dinner.
- Jeju: Mongtan Aewol, straw-fire beef short ribs (₩35,000 per serving). Expect about an hour’s wait.
